Micro Cities

If Campuses resemble micro-cities, it's because

  1. institutions would rather provide for everything a student needs on campus,
  2. than drive them beyond the gates to meet their personal and social needs.
  3. Changes on a campus have to correspond with the world outside, given that students spend considerable time here
Campus luxuries in those days stopped short at
  1. hot water,
  2. bug-free mattresses and
  3. edible meals.
  4. Laundry
These days, however, students are living the upgrade malls
  1. Spas  having steam and sauna centres,
  2. hospital and
  3. Restaurant
  4. Gym
  5. salons
  6. pizza joints
  7. Juice shops
  8. bowling alleys dot
  9. a yoga center
  10. merchandise,
  11. books and stationery,
  12. laptops,
  13. mobile phones and accessories,
  14. gift shops,
  15. sports and fitness equipment and
  16. test prep companies
  17. swimming pool
  18. travel desk
  19. post office
  20. forex station

Revenue Model

"If each student spends a conservative Rs 5,000 per annum on campus — food, stationary, etc — consider the additional revenue an institution could earn, following either a
  1. revenue-sharing or
  2. property lease model with retail vendors,"
